LHHS SkillsUSA students dominate at State
Our SkillsUSA students won a record 14 medals at last year's State SkillsUSA competition. This year, Lake Havasu High School's SkillsUSA chapter nearly doubled that figure, winning a record 26 out of a possible 35 medals at the State competition in Phoenix. The only contest they didn't win a medal in was Quiz Bowl, where they placed 4th , missing the 3rd place medal by one point. LHHS students also won medals in four contests they have never competed in before. As a result of all this, Lake Havasu High will have five SkillsUSA members representing their school, their city, and the state of Arizona in the SkillsUSA National Championships in Kansas City this June.
Lake Havasu Drafting teams (taught and advised by Brian Aranguena) continued their domination of the drafting category by taking bronze, silver, and gold medals in CAD Architecture, Board Architecture and Home Design. This is the second time in Aranguena's seven years teaching at LHHS that his students have swept the highly contested CAD Architecture contest and will be the 4th time his students compete at Nationals. Lake Havasu continued its dynasty as the #1 school in the state in CAD Architecture by 3-peating and qualifying Stephen to compete at this year's National Championships. The last two year's State contests were won by former LHHS SkillsUSA great, Taylor, who put the spotlight on Lake Havasu's ADDA (American Design Drafting Association) certified drafting program by winning the gold medal at last year's National Competition. This year's State winners in CAD Architecture were: Gold – Stephen, Silver – Tyler, and Bronze – Dan. Board Architecture winners: Gold – Stetson, Silver – Jose, and Bronze – Jake. Home Design winners: Gold – Maggie and Haley, Silver – Brian and Brad, and Bronze – Briana and Dan.
