Special Services: Child Find

Child Find Policies
All individuals with disabilities aged birth (0) through twenty-one (21) years within the District’s jurisdiction are to be located, identified and evaluated including children attending religious or private schools who are in need of special education and related services.

Using awareness strategies, it shall be this School Districts responsibility to disseminate to the public, parents, teachers and private schools the “Child Find” procedures for identification and implementation of services for individuals with possible disabilities aged birth (0) through twenty-one (21) years.

Child Find Screenings are conducted at Smoketree Elementary Preschool, Smoketree Elementary Annex Building. Call Jessica Miller or Debra Weger for scheduling @ (928)505-6033 or send referral form with parent’s signature to Smoketree Developmental Preschool.

All Child Finds are subject to change and dates may be added based on need. Dates for 2017-18:

• Monday & Tuesday, October 2nd & 3rd. All paperwork due one week before.
• Monday & Tuesday , February 26th & 27th. All paperwork due one week before.

Bilingual Evaluations
Students with primary home language of Spanish are to be evaluated in Spanish. Special Services will schedule bilingual evaluator two times a year. This is generally done in the fall and spring. Students need to have completed SIT RED/Referral to MET for evaluation/Parent Permission completed at least a week prior to scheduled dates to be evaluated. Lori Fadroski will communicate via email dates and reminders to special education staff and administration at the beginning of year and reminders 2-4 weeks prior to deadlines.
