Retired librarian shares her love of books

Mrs. Lou Jean Slack said she would like to make a contribution to Thunderbolt Middle School's "Adopt-A-Book" program, a fundraiser organized by Thunderbolt's Renaissance Club to help purchase more books for the school library. Mrs. Slack had read about the empty spaceMrs. Slack is greeted by Thunderbolt students. on library shelves in an article in our local newspaper. She said she wanted to help. Renaissance Club sponsors Katie Erickson and Jenna Lowder along with school librarian Vicki McCormack were knocked for a loop when Ms. Slack said she would like to contribute $8,000.

Mrs. Slack said that, since she has no grandchildren, she takes pleasure in being able to help. Thunderbolt 7th grade teacher Brian Wedemeyer told her she now has 1,200 grandchildren. Mrs. Slack was given a standing ovation by Thunderbolt students and staff when she visited the school on January 23. She is a very special lady.
